Guiding Question:
What can educators do in order to help mid/low level readers succeed in the regular education classroom?
Rationale:
I entered the New Literacies and Global Learning masters program at North Carolina Statue University in the fall of 2009. I was currently teaching 6th grade social studies but was unsure as to what subject matter I was passionate about teaching. As a result, I did not choose my NLGL focus immediately. In February of 2010, I changed schools and teaching positions. I began to teach Spanish and a reading intervention class at Exploris Middle School. As I devoted much of my time to creating engaging, effective reading and Spanish programs, I discovered that I loved teaching struggling students how to navigate language. I decided to pursue a concentration in K-12 reading. Through the New Literacies and Global Learning program, I focused my research on helping mid to low-level readers excel in the regular education classroom. Four platforms guided my education including: global perspective, research, leadership and technology.
This website is a compilation of the processes, projects and curriculum initiatives of which I have lead or been a part throughout the past three years. Each project and/or initiative falls under one of the four key platforms: Global Perspective, Research, Leadership or Technology.
Enjoy!
